Abrasive steel shot is manufactured by melting high quality steel scrap, that is subsequently atomized by pouring streams of the molten steel through high-pressure water jets. The resultant shots are refined during quenching and then dried and reheated in a tempering furnace to produce the applicable hardness. The tempered shots are then mechanically screened to produce 11 grades conforming to SAE standard specifications.
